In case you missed it, being delulu (aka delusional) is all the rage.
The term has racked up over five billion views on TikTok, and creators like Courtney Johnson sing its praises to a growing community of devotees.
But what is it?
In a nutshell, being delulu encourages young people to be their own obsessed fans. It’s a sort of supreme self-confidence akin to radical optimism.
So, what’s radical optimism?
Radical optimism is an unwavering belief in positive outcomes.
Both delulu and radical optimism emphasise the transformative power of thinking about — and expecting — good things to happen.
And there may well be something in that.
Our brains adapt and reorganise based on our cognitive and emotional patterns.
So, a delulu-like perspective could strengthen neural pathways associated with confidence and positivity over time.
Ultimately helping to create the kind of self-fulfilling prophecies fans of the thinking report.
